I think this gland looks like “swimming pools”
of colloid surrounded by follicle cells. Some of my students tell
me that the follicles look like the fasicles in a steak. Other students
tell me the thyroid looks like a cobblestone street.

The black circle indicates a follicle: a a small secretory sac or cavity.
The follicle cells make up the secretory sac containing the colloid.
Between the follicles are the parafollicular cells.
